Do the sightseeing in the Cultural Triangle in a tuk-tuk. You will see so much more of the beautiful scenic landscape than you would ever see from the house-lined main roads… The scenery around Dambulla / Sigiriya / Polonnaruwa is incredibly beautiful.
I have lived in Dambulla ever since 2011. I know most of the tuk-tuk drivers in Dambulla. Most of our guests catch a tuk-tuk to get to Sigiriya and other places. Therefore I also know which tuk-tuk drivers are mainly after your money (quick tour, without showing anything extra) and which ones are after making your trip an awesome and memorable trip. Believe me, there are big differences.
So if you want to go with a really good and reliable tuk-tuk driver, just use the contact form below or WhatsApp me on +94778442908 (I often don’t have my phone close, WhatsApp would work better for me than a call). You will also find a price list for half day and full day tours in the Cultural Triangle, starting in Dambulla. The tuk-tuk drivers can also pick you up in Habarana or Sigiriya.

My favorite two tuk-tuk drivers
He happens to be my husband, but I would recommend him anyways. He loves showing people the beautiful area he was born in. He doesn’t regard himself as a pure “driver”, more like a friend who shows you around. So he might stop along the way and introduce you to a friend or jump into a lake or show you his favorite bar or place to eat. Asela speaks English quite well and he is very eager to explain you many cultural sights and things. He is a funny guy and you are very likely to have a good time and something to laugh about with him.
While the average tuk-tuk driver returns our guests at 10 am (when the Sigiriya tour started at 6.30 am or 7 am), guests who have gone with my husband won’t be back before 11 am, more likely 12 noon. And they come back with a big smile on their face.
But as he has all the time of the day, he shouldn’t be your first choice if you just want to rush through the sightseeing and get going quickly to the next place to stay.
Sarath is a lovely man in his 40’s, one of the most selfless people I know in Dambulla. He loves wildlife, means he will make sure you see every little (or big) animal that he spots in the wilderness. He also loves to fully satisfy his guests with his offered sightseeing tour, showing often some places that most drivers spare. He has great knowledge about many local sights, but he speaks only limited English, which makes it difficult for him to pass on his knowledge. But he tries his best, always!
Here’s a video of our very happy guests after a tuk-tuk tour to Sigiriya and the wilderness, so see wild elephants:
Disclamer: I do receive a small share per day tour from the driver. This money buys you a handpicked driver, that makes sure you see the most of this area (scenic roads) and have a fantastic day. For me, this money helps to pay and keep up the work on this blog and compensates the time that I spend on sending mails and arranging the tours/itineraries/drivers. Thank you for your support.
